We live in a time of unprecedented change: technological change; economic change, social change; ecological change. This tidal wave of changes that are occurring in our outer world will overwhelm those who are not making concurrent changes in their inner world. Those who continue to rely upon what they once learned about themselves and their world will be stuck attempting to survive in a world that exists only in their outmoded ways of thinking.
In order to, not only survive this tsunami of change, but thrive whilst others flounder, we must undergo a personal transformation. We must each decide to change the current image of seeing ourselves as creatures of circumstance into a new vision of seeing ourselves as creators. More distinctly, we must learn to become conscious, rather than unconscious, creators.
While there are great masses of people stuck in what they think they know (what they once learned), many other folks are undertaking a great shift in consciousness and self-awareness.
They are learning to see themselves as an integral part of a consciously evolving universe wherein nothing is separate. They are learning that the world within is as vast and wondrous as is the cosmos. They are learning that the metaphysical and the physical are one and the same holistic and integrated system; that consciousness, itself is the ground of all beingness.
They are learning to transcend the mundane materialistic view of themselves as mere mortal creatures caught up in an indifferent and mechanical universe; and to grow into an intimate relationship with the ineffable force that creates, sustains and enlivens this majestic universe that exists within our own consciousness as much as we exist within it.
Those who are undertaking this great shift in consciousness, of letting go of what they once learned and are transitioning into a new way of seeing, will be able to surf this great wave of change that is radically transforming the external world around us.
Some Darwinian influenced thinkers might say that humans are simply evolving in response to environmental change; that a new awareness of connectivity and responsibility is indicative of the more evolved consciousness we need to develop in order to cope with these profound changes.
But, in a sense, these people who are undergoing this great shift are not evolving; they are mutating. Evolutionary changes take place over large amounts of time; mutations happen relatively quickly. Evolutionary changes consist of small incremental steps. Mutations are profoundly noticeable and radical transformations.
Many people today are choosing to intentionally undergo a personal transmutation into a new kind of human who can said to be “marked by deep understanding, keen discernment, and a capacity for sound judgment” and therefore actually deserve the designation of homo sapiens (wise hominoid).
This process of transmutation is profound and radically transformative. It means letting go of the known and familiar and stepping into the unknown; of being willing to learn a new way of being; to allow the old ways of thinking and believing to die so that the new can emerge.
The caterpillar must die to become the butterfly. It literally digests itself, turning into an amorphous soup within its cocoon before the imaginal cells mutate to form the butterfly. Within each of us are imaginal cells that have the power to transform us from a creature that crawls into a creature that can fly into worlds our old self could not yet perceive.
Those who are still caterpillars crawling on the ground and eating leaves are not likely to hear this message; but those of you who are in the process of weaving your cocoons or those who are already undergoing the process of letting those imaginal cells create the new you, I invite you to learn a new context in which to exist and invite you to become truly empowered.
Imagine waking up to a life filled with wonder, joy and a profound sense of gratitude. Picture yourself living an abundant and prosperous life. See yourself as a powerful creative force. Learn how to be in tune with the evolutionary imperative of a consciously aware cosmos.
